Punchbowl Canteen

One of Melbourne's cafe that is proud to celebrate their local collective style, Punchbowl Canteen embrace the quirky pastel interior to create a vibrant space and vibe. Their concept is to create mind blowing, finger licking', plate scrapping dish that everyone enjoys. Even thought Punchbowl Canteen is fairly new in town, they came in strong by focusing on the quality of their creation from locally sourced produced. We had an opportunity to try not 1, not 2 but 13 of their mouth-watering dishes (yes, you read it right).

Here is what morning magic bites looks like. Scrumptious Pumpkin Doughnuts with whipped yogurt, topped with cinnamon sugar and freeze dried mandarin. It is crunchy on the outside, soft & doughy on the inside; a perfect dish to share.

We also had 2 of their Porridge Three Ways (The Goldilocks Dilemma); Tapioca and Semolina. We love the taste as much as we love the humour behind the playful name (hint, it's one of children's classic). The tapioca was creamy and zesty, perfect balance of sweet and chewy texture.

It was a dilemma. We can't tell which one we love more! The semolina porridge was equally creamy, crunchy and juicy. Absolutely adore the poached mandarin.

Chia Seed Pudding, a light and tasty alternative for a light brunch; stacked with tangy lemon curd, buckinis, rhubarb and strawberries (fresh and freeze dried).

Baked Semolina Gnocchi is so tasty and scrumptious till the last bite. The cauliflower cheese and hazelnuts brought an ideal creamy combination of flavours.

Wood-Fire Pork Belly with carrot & miso puree and apple remoulade. A dish to impress fellow pork belly lovers.

Every cafe had to have a unique burger and in Punchbowl Canteen they got you covered. The Korean Fried Chicken Burger brings a playful taste of kim chi in a fusion styled burger.

Succulent in every bite! Beef Cheek Burger is layered with redkraut, emmental, pickled onions, side padrone peppers and fries. The meat is just so soft, tasty and juicy.

Avocado on Toast, a simple yet most go-to dish for brunch in most of the local cafes. Punchbowl Canteen vamps it up a notch with a generous portion of house tea-smoked trout and poached eggs, finished with black beans dressing.

One of the most requested dish in Punchbowl Canteen, the Fish Cake Scotch Egg sure brings contrast to the simple and neutral plate. Accompany by some colourful radish, pear, beetroot salad and curry mayo,  it's indeed a plate full of flavours.

Calling all bacon lovers, this is for you. The Thick Cut Bacon is true to its name; served with gruyere potato cake, beetroot relish, chipotle mayo, poached eggs.

Warm Seasonal Mushrooms with mascarpone, hazelnut dukkah, radicchio, parsley, poached eggs, toast. A dish to fulfil all mushroom lovers with it's creamy and crunch texture.

Craving for something tangy? Then you should really try Warm Red Curry Chicken Salad with Asian slaw and peanuts. Don't let the name fooled you, this dish is far too tasty and will enjoy by those with adventurous taste palettes.

The Golden Latte, in short turmeric latte, is probably one of Instagram's most adored beverage to date. The eye catching colour made it the hottest new health drink to take the nation by storm, it may be worth a swap to our morning coffee.
